If I were going to be staging the play I would have them both wear bright colors because in the time period it was originally set the colored clothing was more expensive so they would have more expensive clothes. But I would have them each a different color. I would pick ones that can led each other out like red and green to show the equality in the end and how they never really can beat each other in their feud. I would also have the, always stand across from each other but on the same plan without one behind the other unless it was a fight scene where there would need to be the show of dominance by the winner. I would also try to keep them around the same body posture to keep one side from looking bigger In casual conversation. However I would add body language depending on what line or scene was being acted out at the time. I would also have bothered sides have different origins, so skin tint like in the movie, and accent of voice, again like we can see in the movie. This would show different cultures that come together. Finally, I would have these rules not apply to Romeo and Juliet to show that they don't quite fit in but are on their own and fit together that way.

If you were to stage the play, how might you depict the Montagues and Capulets to show that they are of similar class status and wealth but also make them recognizably different from each other and show the audience that they are enemies? You can talk about placement on the stage, costuming, props, body language, style of speaking or any other dramatic elements.
